Could your people use a great motivational message
wrapped in a really good laugh?
A few thoughts on the Power of Humor by Motivational Comedian, Karyn Ruth White
I lean heavily on my sense of humor because to live life well takes a lot of inner strength. I mean let’s face it; life is not for the faint of heart.
Here are a few of the ways I use my sense of humor to stay resilient, productive and happy:
I use humor as a tool to maintain my sanity; I’m not saying that it’s working entirely, but it is definitely helping. If not for my highly developed sense of humor, I’d be in a small padded cell right now, rocking back and forth singing: “And the wheels on the bus go round and round.” Just because life is nuts doesn’t mean we have to follow suit.
I use my sense of humor to wake people up; I see a lot of people who seem to be walking around in some sort of a fog, oblivious, humorless, and miserable. I like to try to wake them up if even for an instant with a smile, a laugh or a kind word. I always invite my audiences to “Wake yourself up and take three people with you every day.”
I use my humor to entertain myself; I will never be lonely as long as I take my sense of humor along for the ride. I like to survey my surroundings and look for what I call life’s humortunities. This is a word I invented. I had some spare time, so I made up a word. It is a combo of humor + opportunities = humortunities. Life is hilarious once you activate your comedy radar.
I use my humor to manage my mood; We all get frustrated, we all have setbacks, we all have bad days. I like to think of my mood as a moment to moment decision. I highly value staying in a good mood, so I am very careful not to let circumstances ruin my mood in any given moment. One of the tips I share with my keynote audiences is to constantly ask yourself the following three questions;
#1: Can I find anything to laugh about in this moment?
#2: Am I going to let this ruin my day?
#3: Would this be funny if this were happening to somebody else?
Why is it that when you lock your keys in the car, that’s serious, but when your neighbor does it, it’s hilarious!
