As the director of prearranged funeral planning, Jamie is often asked why she would work in such a depressing business. The truth is Jamie doesn’t find it depressing at all. She loves helping people to feel more comfortable with the idea of mortality and to help treat death as just a part of life.

Jamie has always felt comfortable talking about hard stuff. When she was in her mid-twenties, a close friend was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor, Jamie was the only one who could talk to Michele about her impending death. She found it so gratifying to help her friend with something so difficult.

Little did she know, the ability to talk about the taboo would lead Jamie into a successful career helping people put their funeral plans in place long before they need them. And she’s working hard to convert our death-averse society into one that treats death like any other lifecycle event, albeit an often painful one.

When they find out Jamie’s speciality, most people say, “I have the weirdest question!” The truth is, the questions are never weird. In fact, she looks forward to being asked a question that she’s never heard before.

Jamie has been married to Jon Sarche for almost 22 years. They have two sons and who actually still like to spend time with them! She’s an avid reader and loves her kickboxing class!

“It was a wonderful evening and Jamie, you made us see rituals that we didn’t even know we had, but to understand the importance they have in our lives in so many ways.  Thank you for sharing such a wonderful topic.” Laurie Abelman, Temple Emanuel Sisterhood Past President
